Water will continue to be a major focus of JBS USA moving forward. To achieve our goal of reducing water use intensity by 10 percent in 2020, we must continue to innovate, realize operational efficiencies, focus on the details of water use in our facilities and develop detailed implementation plans to meet our goals.
Our environmental teams will continue to track water quality and water use performance for each facility and, working in collaboration with the engineering department and senior management, will identify improvement opportunities for continued water reduction.
Energy will continue to be a major focus of JBS USA moving forward. To achieve our goal of reducing electricity use intensity by 12 percent, natural gas use intensity by 20 percent and greenhouse gas emission intensity by 20 percent in 2020, we must continue to innovate, realize operational efficiencies and invest in energy management projects to meet our goals.
To improve our efforts in waste management, recycling and cost reduction, we will continue to work with third-party companies in each facility to ensure that our local teams are supported with the necessary technical expertise to tailor their waste and recycling approach to address their specific local challenges.
While the Corporate Materiality Assessment did not indicate that waste and recycling is one of the most immediate priorities, we recognize and prioritize its importance in the company. As our sustainability program delivers results and demonstrates improvements in our priority issues, we will reassess our program and focus on new challenges.
